ProLift Tailgate Assist for Ford Ranger PX PX2 PX3 2012–2021
Three generations of Ford Ranger PX shared the same heavy tailgate design — reliable, but tiring to operate repeatedly on a worksite or at a campsite. The ProLift Tailgate Assist fits a gas strut damper to your Ranger's factory hinge points, absorbing the weight on the way down and assisting the lift on the way up. Once fitted, one hand is all you need to operate the tailgate regardless of what you're carrying in the other.

The end result is good, however the instructions need to be written by someone who has actually fitted a few. There is one tailgate bolt one left and right that is impossible to get a torx key into parallel due to the spring retainer in the way. This could be redesigned or a special purpose tool supplied in the kit. The experience maybe different if you are doing more than just one. I am an engineer and I have a business manufacturing veterinary equipment. So I do have experience with mechanical items. I feel there is room for improvement here in a good product.
It was great to be able to open the tailgate without having to hold it up, to stop it from slamming down hard and help with the weight of the tailgate.
Love this tailgate system . Way easy to install . Makes the gate light for one finger lift and has the strut to smooth the operation. . See video . Great value for money .

Love the ProLift Tailgate Assist. Our Toyota Hilux Rogue had the heaviest tailgate - you needed two hands and some muscle to lift it. My husband and I spent a couple of hours (in between jobs) installing it - a little fiddly with all the wires running through the install area, but not too difficult. The tailgate is now so light, we throw it up easily one handed.👍

MAKES THE TAIL GATE MUCH EASIER TO OPEN AND CLOSE
Easy fitment was great. The tailgate does not self lower after fitment, it must be pushed down. It sits up about 20mm without any weight on it. Alignment seems fine, just a bit too much spring tension. Just being picky. Tailgates get slippery and drop fast and hard. Just missed the kids head once, that was enough to scare me into buying. Massive safety improvement for my ute.
Great product. Postage was very slow due to the delivery service they choose. They need to use a more reliable courier service

Quick delivery and well packaged. Doesn’t quite work as described but much better than without it. Needed to remove some rubbers which wasn’t in the instructions and sometimes the check strap fouls on the shock and jams.

Not even close to water tight but I'm not sure that it is supposed to be. Function is very stubborn, but the mechanism is not used frequently. Nothing that WD40 won't fix. All in all, happy with it
The tailgate now drops a little before the struts start to work.

Product works as well as it promises, the tailgate is much easier to use now. Installation was tricky and I found the instructions hard to understand. We got it fitted eventually and I am happy with the product.
