Ute Tonneau Covers

Soft tri-fold covers fold into three sections for partial or full tub access. Hard tri-fold lids use three painted alloy panels you can sit weight on. Hard quad-fold lids fold into four tighter sections against the cab. Revolver hard-rolling covers use aluminium slats that roll into a canister — the premium option combining hard-cover security with roll-back convenience.

Soft covers ($350–$550) are the value choice — lighter, easier to remove, and they protect against rain, dust and casual theft. Hard covers ($1,000+) add real security (lockable, can't be cut), let you stand or sit weight on top, and feel premium. If you carry tools, valuables or expensive recovery gear, go hard. If you mainly want weather and visual cover at the lowest price, soft is the smart pick.

For tradies, the Revolver hard-rolling cover (from $1,300) is the standout — lockable aluminium slats keep tools secure on-site, the roll-back action gives you instant full tub access, and it bolts to existing tie-down rails. If budget is tighter, a hard tri-fold lid from $1,000 still locks down securely and lets you fold one section up to grab gear without removing the whole cover.

For touring builds, the choice comes down to gear access patterns. A Revolver hard-rolling cover gives you secure storage with quick roll-back access when you're at camp. A hard quad-fold lid folds tighter against the cab so you can run a longer load past the rear and still close most of the cover. For roof-rack-heavy builds with a rooftop tent, a ute canopy is usually a better fit since tonneau covers aren't load-rated for RTTs.

A BAKFlip MX4 hard fold retails at $2,199–$2,734 in Australia; a comparable UniUte hard tri-fold is $1,000. Soft roll-up covers are clip-on — about 20 minutes with basic hand tools, no drilling. Soft tri-fold covers clamp to the tub rails in 30–45 minutes. Hard tri-fold and quad-fold lids take around 60–90 minutes and need a second pair of hands to lift the panels safely. Revolver hard-rolling covers take 90–120 minutes including the canister fitment. No. Every UniUte tonneau cover mounts to the existing tub tie-down rails using bolt-on clamps — no chassis drilling, no permanent modifications, no electrical taps for the soft and folding covers. The factory vehicle warranty stays intact. The cover itself comes with its own manufacturer warranty.

Yes. Soft and folding covers are bolt-on to the tub rails and remove cleanly without damage to the tub — practical for resale or transferring to a next vehicle with the same tub size. Revolver covers can also be removed but may need a new fitment kit if the rail profile differs between models. Soft roll-up covers are the easiest to swap thanks to the clip-on design.

• Soft vinyl covers: Rinse with water and mild detergent every 4–6 weeks. Apply a vinyl protectant every 6 months to prevent fading.
• Hard folding lids: Wash with regular automotive shampoo. Lubricate the hinges with silicone spray every 6–12 months.
• Revolver hard-rolling covers: Rinse after off-road or coastal driving to clear grit from the slat tracks. Lubricate side rails with dry silicone spray every 6–12 months.
